ClearRead · Personalized Reading

Privacy policy

Effective date:

ClearRead personalizes website text on your device. Your reading preferences stay in Chrome on that device. The extension does not send website text or your preferences to us or to third parties.

What this policy covers

This policy covers the ClearRead — Personalized Reading Chrome extension, published by Taban Cosmos / LearnwithCosmos. ClearRead lets you adjust fonts, letter and word spacing, line height, and paragraph highlighting on supported websites.

Information processed on your device

When enabled, ClearRead examines webpage text and its layout to identify eligible reading content and apply your chosen style. It also checks newly added content on dynamic pages. Website text is processed within your browser; it is not saved as a copy of the page or uploaded by the extension.

When you open the popup, ClearRead reads the current tab’s URL to identify and display its hostname and let you turn the extension on or off for that website.

Preferences stored locally

ClearRead uses Chrome’s local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) to remember:

These preferences persist between browser sessions on the same Chrome profile. ClearRead does not use Chrome’s sync storage or provide a cloud account. Website-specific preferences are not a chronological record of your browsing activity.

Why ClearRead needs permissions

You control activation for individual websites and can optionally enable ClearRead by default. You can also manage website access in Chrome’s extension settings.

No analytics, advertising, or data sharing

ClearRead does not send data to developer-operated servers, collect analytics, include advertising trackers, or require an account. We do not receive, sell, or share the webpage text or preferences processed by the extension.

All executable code is bundled with ClearRead. The extension does not download or execute remote code. Optional OpenDyslexic support uses an already installed system font, with a fallback font if unavailable.

Information accessed by ClearRead is used only to provide its reading customization features, in accordance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Your choices and deleting preferences

You can change your reading settings, reset the reading style, and turn ClearRead off for a website in the popup. Resetting the reading style resets typography settings; it does not remove website-specific choices.

To remove all locally saved ClearRead preferences, uninstall the extension from Chrome. There is no developer-held copy of these preferences to delete. Browser or device backups are controlled by your browser, operating system, and backup provider.

Websites and contact services

Websites you visit have their own privacy practices. This policy describes ClearRead’s behavior and does not change how those websites operate. Visiting this privacy page or following the contact link is separate from using the extension; the relevant hosting or contact service may process normal web request information and anything you choose to submit.

Changes to this policy

If ClearRead’s data handling changes, we will update this page and its effective date and update the Chrome Web Store disclosures as applicable.
